kidsThe Spina Bifida Association of Illinois® (SBA of IL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with Spina Bifida through direct services, information, referral, research, and public awareness. The SBA of IL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 1969.

Spina Bifida is the failure of the spine to close properly during the first month of pregnancy and results in varying degrees of paralysis, loss of sensation in the lower limbs, difficulty with bowel and bladder management, hydrocephalus, and learning disabilities.It takes a team of parents, doctors, therapists, teachers, and others to help a person with Spina Bifida achieve maximum potential. But with proper attention, that person's potential is unlimited.

Camp Ability® 2008

We are excited to announce a move to the new location of Camp Red Leaf in Ingleside, IL (http://www.jcys.org/redleaf/). Camp programming, activities, counselor ratio and medical care will remain very similar to past years and will continue to include horseback riding, swimming, arts & crafts, campfires, the dance, our independence program, and more. The SBA of IL office is now accepting applications for Camp Ability, which will take place in August 2008 on the following dates:
Ages 7-13 August 3rd-9th
Ages 14-18 August 10th-16th
Ages 19+ August 17th-23rd
All applications must be received by June 5th, 2008.

Camp Ability® Tour

May 4th, 2008, 2:00pm

Camp Ability® will be holding an open house at its new location on Camp Red Leaf in Ingleside, Illinois. Campers and families are invited to tour the facility at 2:00 pm on May 4, 2008.

Scholarship applications are now available!

All residents of Illinois who plan on continuing education after high school and who have been diagnosed with Spina Bifida are welcome to apply! All applications are due by April 15th, 2008 and will be awarded in June of 2008. Please contact the SBA of IL office for details or to receive an application by mail.
